This Friday (14 September), the second webinar in the Chamber’s IR Reforms Business Briefing Series will be presented. The webinar will focus on changes being proposed in the Federal Government’s Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Bill 2023, on how Casual Employment operates within Australian workplaces.

We will discuss what the proposed changes are, what effect that may have and what you may be able to do in preparation.

The proposed changes include:

the introduction of a definition of casual employment with the Fair Work Act 2009;
the ability for a casual employee to give notice that they do not believe that their relationship to the employer meets that definition;
requirements by employers to deal with notices and disputes surrounding misclassification as a casual employee and provisions for the Fair Work Commission to deal with the dispute; and
financial penalties for misrepresenting employment as casual employment or terminating employment with the express intent to re-engage a person as a casual employee.

Ezra has significant experience representing employers before the Fair Work Commission and Queensland Human Rights Commission, successfully managing disputes start-to-finish. He also has experience managing claims before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Fair Work Ombudsman and advocating member interests to Queensland state parliament. Ezra has spoken on several panels and conducted training across the nation, sharing lived-in industry experiences and practical solutions.

Chloe Boike

Workplace Relations Advisor

Chloe joined Business Chamber Queensland in early April 2023 in the position of Workplace Relations Advisor.

Before joining the Workplace Advisory Services team, Chloe worked at the Ipswich City Council as a Workplace Relations Officer. Chloe has a good deal of experience in writing and reviewing company policies and procedures as well as negotiating and implementing Enterprise Bargaining Agreements.
