THE Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External Territories has started an inquiry into the National Capital Plan (NCP) Amendment No. 102 – Hume Circle Precinct.

Committee Chair, Alicia Payne MP, said the inquiry would examine the public consultation processes undertaken by the National Capital Authority (NCA) in relation to the Hume Circle Precinct, as well as the high-level strategic planning framework under the National Capital Plan. 

"Local residents have raised their concerns with me about the proposals for the Hume Circle Precinct,” Ms Payne said.

“I’ve raised those concerns with Minister for Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain during the consultation period.

“Minister McBain has listened to residents and acted, and I’m really pleased she has made this referral for an Inquiry into the NCA’s plan for the Hume Circle Precinct," Ms Payne said.

“Canberrans are invested in the future of their city, and it is important that the committee examines the processes that ultimately shape community infrastructure including open spaces, transport and utilities.

"The committee will also evaluate the NCA's approach to the precinct under the Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988, and consider broader issues relating to long-term planning for community infrastructure in Canberra, including open space, transport and utilities in the precinct.”

The committee has invited interested individuals and organisations to make submissions by Friday, September 4 this year.
