Red Metal, Evolution Mining win top Queensland Resource Awards

QUEENSLAND Explorer of the Year and Queensland Miner of the Year for 2013 have been named as minerals exploration company Red Metal Ltd and gold mining company Evolution Mining. The honours were announced last week at the Queensland Mining Resources Convention in Brisbane.

Queensland's top mining companies have been lauded at the Mining Resources Convention.

The Queensland Explorer of the Year award was presented to Red Metal Limited’s managing director, Rob Rutherford, by Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Andrew Cripps.

The Queensland Miner of the Year award, also presented by MrCripps, was accepted by Evolution Mining’s vice president for investor relations and business development, Aaron Colleran.

The awards judging committee included including members of the Queensland Government, the Queensland Resources Council and Mining 2013 organisers, Vertical Events.

Vertical Events managing director Stewart McDonald said both Red Metal and Evolution Mining had made significant contributions to the Queensland resources industry.

Other nominees for the awards included CuDECO Ltd, DGR Global Ltd, Arrow Energy and Copper Assets Australia Glencore.

Companies were nominated based on their considerable achievements within the Queensland resources community in the two categories.

Previous recipients of the awards include Metallica Minerals Ltd, Altona Mining Ltd, Conquest Mining Ltd (now Evolution Mining Ltd) and Xstrata Copper plc.
