Master Builders Australia urges new CFMEU administrator to ‘remove corruption’
MASTER BUILDERS Australia’s has welcomed the announcement, by the Fair Work Commission, that it has appointed Michael Crosby as the new CFMEU administrator – and urged the administrator to drive out corruption.
Master Builders Australia Acting CEO Melissa Byrne said the administration must now continue its work to remove corruption and change the culture.
“The administration must ensure there is no place for crime, corruption or coercion in the union, and we will continue to work with them to this end,” Ms Byrne said.
“Australians do not accept this criminal conduct in any workplace, let alone on taxpayer funded job sites.
“As Master Builders has said, administration was the first step, not the only step and the new administrator and the Federal Government must deliver meaningful reform.
“We call on the Federal Government to fast-track legislative action and adoption of Master Builders’ six-point plan.
“Consultation on the currently proposed new building and construction industry standards to work on Commonwealth funded projects that broadly align with our plan and many of the recommendations of past inquiries must also be a priority.
“We need the administration to continue through to the full five years as well as industry-specific enforcement. Witnesses must be protected, productivity destroying clauses must be banned and competition law strengthen, and bad actors must be expelled from both organisations and the system itself.” Ms Byrne said.
