The new Premier's ClimateSmart Sustainability awards expand the former EPA awards.

The Queensland Government is calling on businesses to nominate ‘green' projects for the inaugural 2010 Premier's ClimateSmart Sustainability Awards.

The awards will showcase the innovative work of Queensland businesses working to reduce Queensland's carbon footprint, according to Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh.

Award categories are open to all Queensland-based community groups, schools, individuals, not-for-profit organisations, local government, industry and business.

Nominations close on Friday, March 26.

Winners will be announced at an awards dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, June 4.

Category winners will receive $5000 cash to support on-going or future sustainability projects.

The Premier's ClimateSmart Sustainability Awards are a broadening of scope for what were previously known as the EPA Sustainability Awards, drawing greater involvement of educational institutions and Queensland communities participating in sustainability initiatives and training.

The awards are co-ordinated by the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) on behalf of the Queensland Government.
