Leading Irrigators continue their National Tour in Bundaberg Print
Tuesday, 13 April 2010

nsw_irrigators_council_logo_symbol_sml.jpg Four leading irrigators are back together to share their knowledge and for the first time they will be visiting Bundaberg.

This is the continuation of a very successful project started last year. NSW Irrigators Council representative, Mark Moore said "providing the opportunity for irrigators to attend a forum based solely on efficiency techniques from a wide range of operations is in-valuable."

"It's irrigators talking to irrigators, there's no sales, no product promotion, just the information on what's working in different areas of Australia and how it's working."  This is also a great opportunity for us to see some of the unique farming operations and get some ideas from Bundaberg farmers.

"There is a great deal of attention focused on water and its uses, so this is the perfect time to highlight what's being done to maximise every drop on-farm. Australia has many different soil types over a vast array of topography, so one method of irrigation just doesn't work everywhere."

Each of the presenters has employed practices that have improved their productivity, decreased their water usage and boosted their farm profitability. They'll be sharing this knowledge at this forum.

The presenters are:

          Mathew Stott - Broad acre sub-surface drip on Popcorn, Wine Grapes and Hybrid Seed

          Malcom Baker - Sandalwood producer using tail water return, furrow and hybrid drip;

          Rob Tuck - Cotton, Maize & Wheat producer highlighting soil moisture, lateral moves and stubble retention; and

          Matthew Durack - Pecan Nut producer - sub‐surface drip design & implementation

Sharing the Knowledge - Irrigating in a Changing Climate, has been organised by the NSW Irrigators' Council with funding assistance from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, under FarmReady, part of Australia's Farming Future.
