International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

Lady Mayoress Lisa Newman is devoted to Brisbane’s charities and has led the way in educating Brisbane's community on the importance of numerous causes resulting in enormous inroads for many charities.

Formerly a Mater Hospital trained nurse, Lisa managed a private surgical practice from mid 1980’s until the 2004 election. Lisa is now an active community member being Patron of the Emotional Fitness Foundation, McDonald's Brisbane Community Trust and the Lifestream Foundation. Lisa is also the Queensland Patron of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and a committee member of the Adolescent Drug & Alcohol Withdrawal Service (ADAWS) and Life Education Australia Queensland (Brisbane). Lisa is also a busy mother of two daughters, and wife of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Campbell Newman.

At this year's International Women's Day luncheon hear the Lady Mayoress’ fascinating professional journey and passion about her role as Chair of the Lord Mayor's Community Trust and the valuable work undertaken by The Trust which supports charities that care for and help those in need in the Brisbane community. The Trust seeks out charities that provide prevention strategies and support services for people and families who are homeless, suffering mental illness or disability, or offer services for drug or alcohol addiction, trauma, abuse or neglect.
