 Joey Wright.
Starting his playing career with the Drake University Bulldogs during the 1986-87 NCAA season, he lined up as point guard for the University of Texas from 1988 to 1991 before spending the spring of 1991 at the Chicago NBA tryout camp. He was selected in the draft by the Phoenix Suns that same year.
When his playing career finished, Joey coached the Austin Cyclones in the Southwest Basketball League as well as other US teams before seeking a coaching contract in the Australian NBL.
He became the Brisbane Bullets' head coach midway through the 2002/2003 season where he coached until last year.
Wright led the Bullets to great heights, including a 16-win improvement in the 2003/2004 season, successive finals appearances and a stellar 2006/2007 season capped off with an NBL Championship.
He also boasts a 21 NBL game winning streak.
Joey was awarded the NBL Coach of the Year Award in 2004 and 2007 and is already igniting plenty of excitement at the Gold Coast Blaze.
