Clubs Queensland, the peak body representing the state's community clubs, has announced it is taking a stake in a long-established business consultancy that provides strategic business development and training services to the industry.
The Clubs Queensland board announced its approval of the purchase of a one-third shareholding in the Dickson Wohlsen Strategies/Club Training Australia business at its recent annual general meeting.
The negotiations and due diligence for the purchase took place over several months and secures a new financial and strategic direction for the organisation.
CEO of Clubs Queensland, Doug Flockhart said Clubs Queensland has been openly looking for some time to diversify its operations by identifying external business opportunities to realise supplementary income to boost its operations and growth.
"To date we have been largely reliant on membership for the funding of high quality training, support services, research and strategic advice we offer community clubs around the state," Mr Flockhart said.
"The revenue generated by this investment in the long term will enable us to add new services and depth to our existing programs, and to directly work alongside a leading business which demonstrates and shapes best practice in our industry.
"This is a solid business decision for our continued development and it offers Clubs Queensland greater, consolidated value. Community Clubs throughout our state contribute over $673million each year both directly and indirectly to our local communities, consequently improving the quality of life for so many Queenslanders.
"Clubs Queensland is focused on ensuring all community clubs can fulfil their community aims and responsibilities and we can now offer them a greater range of business-boosting services," he said.
Clubs Queensland is the peak industry body and union of employers for all registered and licensed clubs throughout Queensland, including sporting clubs, RSL and ex-services and memorial clubs, surf lifesaving clubs, workers, business, cultural and general community clubs.
