The Hoodlum team members celebrate their Emmy win.

It is the second consecutive nomination Hoodlum has received for its work on the hit program Lost and Hoodlum's first Emmy win.

"This is a huge achievement for Hoodlum," Nathan Mayfield, founder of Hoodlum said.

"It has strengthened our ties with the ABC studios in the US and has already opened so many doors for Australia to be viewed a real global player in this exciting world where creativity and technology are truly converging."

Hoodlum's win was for its work on the Dharma Wants You project, a ground-breaking multiplatform experience that enabled audiences to interact with the TV series Lost.

The extensive eight-month-long interactive experience designed for the gap between the fourth and fifth series of the hit US TV show. Fans could enlist and complete aptitude tests modelled around the show.

Dharma Wants You employed a rich combination of real world events and innovative interactive technologies to create a truly interactive experience that integrated with the TV show and rewarded fans with a very special role in Lost mythology.

Dharma Wants You utilised a wide variety of media platforms, including numerous websites, exclusive video, interactive games, Bluetooth, mobile, TV, VoIP, social networks and complex real-world events involving hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide.

"Hoodlum has experienced huge growth in the past three years and we are excited by this monumental recognition," Mr Mayfield said.

He said the win for Hoodlum reflected the global strength of Brisbane's creative industry which is driven by local innovation and talent.

"Hoodlum's global recognition at the 2009 Emmy's is also recognition of Brisbane's substantial growth in the creative and multimedia industries," Brisbane Marketing's director of Investment Attraction, Daniel Havas said.

"Brisbane has been described as a ‘hot spring' of innovation by a recent McKinsey & Company study; and as Australia's ‘new world city', these attributes help cultivate talent to support the city's creative industries."

Brisbane Marketing's Investment Attraction division, the city's inward investment agency, plays a strategic role in securing investment within the creative and multimedia industries, Mr Havas said.

Hoodlum's international acclaim has been further recognised on a local level through its recent recognition as one of five finalists for the Creativity award in the 2009 Lord Mayor's Business Awards (LMBA).

The Brisbane-based company took out the 2008 Creativity Award, and its success this year will be determined on October 8when all winners will be announced at the LMBA Gala dinner.

Hoodlum has been developing, producing and delivering unique multi-platform content offerings and sponsor integration since 1999.  Hoodlum was founded by Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield and is based in Brisbane, but represented by ICM in the US and the UK.
