Corporate cyclists urged to gear up for Bike Week PDF  | Print |  Email

Queensland corporates are being encouraged to sign up now for Bike Week 2010, particularly Scody Ride to Work Day and the BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge.Image

Pedalling the message, cycling is smart travel, Bike Week 2010 presents plenty of options for workers to band together in teams and demonstrate their cycling prowess while enjoying a little friendly rivalry between businesses.

For those who make cycling part of their daily work routine, the program offers the ever-popular Scody Ride to Work Day, a free event with prizes on offer for introducing new riders to the fast and affordable way to get a workout while getting to work on time.

Held on Wednesday, March 17, Scody Ride to Work Day includes a free breakfast in King George Square and Brisbane city workers can register now to ride in groups.

‘It's exciting to see the participation of Brisbane companies in Scody Ride to Work Day increase every year," said Ben Wilson, manager of Bicycle Queensland.

Bernard Curran, partner with Private & Entrepreneurial Client Services for leading accounting firm BDO, has also issued a callout to co-workers, clients and competitors to start their training now to tackle the BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge on Sunday March 21.

The scenic 80km ride takes cyclists past the city skyscrapers before beginning the steep

climb up Brisbane's iconic Mt Coot-tha and back along the Brisbane River.

"Over 70 BDO team members took part in the ride last year, travelling from all over Australia to participate and we're keen to see if any other company can beat that during Bike Week 2010," Mr Curran said.

Online entries are now open for the BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge, with team and corporate packages available. Funds raised support the Endeavour Foundation.

Bike Week 2010 is a nine-day, citywide celebration of cycling taking place from March 13-21 to highlight the fastest growing mode of transport In Australia. Many events are free and full program details are available at www.bq.org.au

Bicycle Queensland is non-profit community and advocacy group working to make cycling safer. In addition to Bike Week, the group also presents the Cycle Queensland regional ride and the Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge.
