NIA continues to push for Henry Review initiatives PDF  | Print |  Email

While the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) has congratulated Julia Gillard on forming a government  and re-assuming the Prime Minister's role, the NIA is pressing for greater consideration of the Henry Review of taxation.

NIA chief executive officer, Andrew Conway said, "Our congratulations to Ms Gillard and the Australian Labor Party on securing a minority government. With the election over, the NIA will continue to voice its concerns on the complex issues confronting small business today.

"We note a number of recommendations outlined in the Henry Review seek to address these concerns," he said.

"Small business is the backbone of the Australian economy and current tax concerns and compliance costs are creating additional pressure. We support Independent MP Rob Oakeshott's proposal for a tax reform summit. During the election it was placed on the back burner and now with Mr Oakeshott's support serious tax reform can once again be on the government's agenda.

"The NIA will continue to build its voice as an advocate of small business matters. We will continue to drive the Henry Review to ensure that small business tax reform remains front of mind."
