The path to economic recovery has many deviations, detours and pitfalls according to Gold Coast economic expert Dr Doug McTaggart who will present his economic predictions for 2010/11 at a Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) breakfast on 10 June.
The Chief Executive of Queensland Investment Corporation, Former Under Treasurer and former Economics Professor at Bond University will discuss the future of the Australian economy and what this could mean for Gold Coast businesses.
He will shed light on whether PIIGS economies will sidetrack recovery, fiscal recklessness elsewhere will induce dangerous digressions and if all paths lead to China.
CCIQ President David Goodwin said the Australian economy continued to outperform most other global economies however a mixed bag of reports is creating uncertainty about the economy among Queensland communities and businesses.
“In contrast to the rest of the state, Gold Coast business confidence continues to grow,” Mr Goodwin said.
“Our latest Commonwealth Bank CCIQ Pulse Survey of Business Conditions shows business confidence on the Gold Coast increased by 1.1 basis points from December to March Quarters and profitability increased to 3 base points to 50.8 points. This is the highest level of profitability in Queensland.
“A trend to watch is the performance of the world economy, which has shown some volatility lately with the euro sinking to an 18 month low. Whether this will impact on Australia’s recovery is yet to be seen.
“Dr McTaggart’s qualifications put him in an ideal position to comment on the nation’s economic conditions – both now and in the future.”
If you are interested in Australia’s economic future and how this will impact Gold Coast businesses this seminar is a must.
CCIQ’s Gold Coast Economic Update breakfast is being held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre from 7:30 – 9:00am.
