Colliers International has continued to cement its position as one of the leading property marketing agencies in Queensland, appointing Stewart Gilchrist to the role of Director in Charge of its busy Gold Coast office and National Director of Retail Shopping Centre Sales.
With almost 30 years experience working in various real estate sectors along Australia’s eastern sea board, Mr Gilchrist has an impressive track record negotiating some of the nation’s largest retail and investment transactions. He has recorded individual sales in excess of $1 billion during his career. His appointment is seen as a major coup by Colliers International which aims to strengthen its grip on the commercial and industrial property sector in Queensland. Mr Gilchrist will now concentrate on continuing to grow Colliers International’s market leading position on the Gold Coast, while maintaining a focus on larger retail sales in the burgeoning city. Nathan Clark, National Director of Retail at Colliers International, said Mr Gilchrist’s appointment strengthens Colliers International’s executive team. “Stewart is one of the most credible operators in Australia’s shopping centre investment sales market, and coupled with his previous experience in senior management roles we are pleased to have attracted a person of such calibre,” he said. “Colliers International has seen the opportunity to grow its retail investment sales capability across the country and Stewart’s appointment will expand our wealth of knowledge and experience in this sector. Mr Clark said Mr Gilchrist will be working very closely with our Retail Agency Directors to negotiate shopping centre sales around the country. “Stewart has been in shopping centre sales for more than 17 years, and has significant knowledge in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) together with buyers currently in the market. “His track record of major shopping centre transactions includes Adelaide Myer Centre ($231 million), Robina Town Centre ($196 million) and Marina Mirage Centre ($40 million) on the Gold Coast and MacArthur Central ($119 million) in Brisbane.” Stewart is the 58th person to be hired by Colliers International this year and almost half of which have been from competitors (24 people). Mr Gilchrist said retail investment was big business in Queensland with 2009 shaping up to be strong. “This is the third time I have been through the troughs of Australia’s property cycle and I have learnt that now is a time of opportunity,” Mr Gilchrist said. “Although the city is not immune to the global credit crisis, strong population growth and migration flows, a healthy business sector and low unemployment are fundamentals which have ensured the city’s real estate and business markets remain buoyant in an anxious economy. “At the end of the day, real estate sales are about relationships and bringing two parties together. “I look forward to maintaining a presence in retail sales in the city and leading Colliers International’s Gold Coast team members to reach their goals.” Mr Gilchrist will also be responsible for overseeing the growth of the busy Gold Coast office and is looking to appoint the next generation of commercial, industrial and residential executives. “Colliers International has a reputation in the marketplace for fostering young up-and-coming agents through innovative initiatives such as Colliers University and mentoring programs, and I am excited to be a part of such a reputable and strong-positioned company.” Mr Gilchrist is a past President of Real Estate Institute of Queensland Commercial and industrial division and currently sits on the Property Council of Australia’s retail committee.
