State Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development Andrew Fraser MP will discuss issues affecting Queensland’s financial future following the release of the Henry Review and in the immediate build-up to the State Budget at a Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) event on Friday 21 May.
CCIQ CEO Steve Murray said Mr Fraser will discuss how the nation’s taxes will impact the budget and the Queensland economy.
“At present, business considers taxes to be a brake on the economy,” Mr Murray said.
“The changes announced in the Henry Review will begin, yet also hinder the long process of turning this around.
“Mr Fraser will discuss how the new tax on Queensland’s mining sector will impact the budget and ultimately the Queensland economy.
“He’ll also give insight into the State Government’s approach to the 2010-11 State Budget and discuss what increased economic activity means for State Government revenues going forward.”
Queensland businesses are looking to our politicians for genuine visions and policies which focus on a stronger economy.
“It is important for business to be aware of the issues that will directly affect Queensland’s financial future in the immediate lead-up to the State Budget, and how the budget may affect them,” Mr Murray said.
“Strong economic leadership will be vital coming off the back of the Global Financial Crisis.”
Mr Murray said the event is an important means of CCIQ fulfilling its role in facilitating and promoting discussion on important issues facing the Queensland economy. “CCIQ will continue to present opportunities for party leaders to address Queensland business over the coming months,” Mr Murray said.
