A Brisbane company is enjoying global success with its unique visual solutions which enable viewers ranging from Australian troop commanders to Mexican night clubbers to become fully surrounded in virtual worlds.
Doctors Andy Boud and Alexander Streit formed ImmersaView in 2006 and
combined their expertise in virtual reality, computer graphics,
programming and mathematics to produce unique technology solutions.
“One of these is Sol7, a software tool which manipulates images so
they can be projected onto large, often curved, multi-projection display
screens,” Dr Boud said.
“Customers typically use our visual display systems for flight
simulation, mineral exploration and analysis, architectural and
automotive design and a range of a training applications.
“Our clients range from defence forces and automotive companies
through to design houses and nightclub owners. Here in Australia,
interest has predominately been from the mining sector.”
Dr Boud said ImmersaView recently worked with the Australian Defence
Force.
“We assisted them in providing immersive visualisation requirements
for virtual battle simulation to help troop commanders undertake mission
rehearsal and training exercises for future troop deployment to
Afghanistan,” Dr Boud said.
“Commanders were able to become fully immersed in the simulated
environment with troop movements easily visualised.
“Sol 7 was also used in a real time display for visitors to virtually
walk through and explore rooms and furnishings in the recently
refurbished Old Government House in Brisbane.”
Dr Streit said the company’s engineers were able to create and
install complete visual display systems for clients or upgrade their
systems to enable them to run sophisticated displays.
“Our technology approach places us in a unique position to provide
cost-effective solutions because we combine readily available hardware
devices with our software which gives us an edge in cost, flexibility
and maintenance,” he said.
Dr Streit said that based upon recent growth in international
markets, ImmersaView was now looking at opening a new office in Europe
to service its growing international clientele.
“Because of the time differences with our international clients, we
virtually operate 24/7 responding to their needs,” Dr Streit said.
“Expanding into new markets will assist our continued growth.”
ImmersaView recently became a member of the Queensland Government’s
Australian Technology Showcase Program.
“We believe it will help us to expand our client base even further,
particularly in Australia,” Dr Boud said.
“Showcase companies have established excellent reputations in both
national and international markets and we look forward to our future
association.”
