The pursuit of excellence seem to be a habit of Queensland businesses and business leaders. A glance at the award winners for 2008 reveals the depth of talent across the board in Queensland business and industry.
EPA sustainability leaders awarded
A group of Queensland’s most innovative businesses was acclaimed in the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Sustainable Industries Awards.
The eight category winners were selected from more than 100 nominations, according to Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation Minister Andrew McNamara.
Mr McNamara congratulated ALDI, Consolidated Rutile, News Limited, RedFlow, Buderim Ginger, Leighton Properties and Leighton Contractors, Groves of Rockhampton and a Wide Bay Water and Dhugamin CDEP alliance on taking out awards in their respective categories.
Leading Australian engineer and prominent Queensland businessman, Martin Albrecht won the Premier’s Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability.

Qld Export Awards
The 2008 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards acclaimed Queensland’s most progressive companies in 2008.
Queensland Exporter of the Year was Xstrata Technology. Agribusiness Award winner is the Australian Agricultural Company Ltd; the Arts and Entertainment Award went to Digital Dimensions Australasia; the Education and Training Award was won by Griffith University; the Emerging Exporter Award went to Urban Arts Projects; ICT Award was won by Triasx; the Large Advanced Manufacturer Award winner was Russell Mineral Equipment; Xstrata Technology also won the Large Services Award; the Minerals and Energy Award went to Queensland Magnesia; the Regional Exporter Award went to NPM Group; the Small Business Award was won by Vigil Systems; Small to Medium Manufacturer Award was won by Centor Holdings; the Small to Medium Services Award winner was HOK Sport Architecture; the Sports, Events and Tourism Award was taken out by Magic Millions Sales.
Lord Mayor’s Business Awards
Medihoney was acclaimed by Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman as the most outstanding company contributing to the growth of the city’s economy over the past year. The Optus Platinum Award for Outstanding Business Contribution to Brisbane was awarded to Medihoney because of its world first developments in the healthcare sector. The 2008 category winners were: Mercedes-Benz Young CEO of the Year, Avraam Solomon, Solomon Food Group; Channel 7 Business Person of the Year, David H.T. Devine, Devine Ltd; Australia TradeCoast Award for Business Growth, Australian Country Choice; National Australia Bank Award for New Investment, Clovely Estate; Nova 106.9 Award for Business Creativity, Hoodlum; IBM Award for Business Innovation, Medihoney; Brisbane City Council Award for Corporate Citizenship, Di Bella Coffee; Energex Award for Sustainability in Business, Arup; Davidson Recruitment Award for Employer of Choice: Riverlife.
